The Digital Heist

Orcastrated by Chidi Nwaubani LOOTY undertakes a digital form of restitution of colonial looted artworks. The LOOTY team, executed a daring digital heist at the British Museum, utilizing LiDAR technology to record detailed scans of the Benin Bronzes. These scans were then used to create new detailed digital sculptures each with their own unique story referencing the aura of the original. These were then converted into NFTs on the blockchain, and offered for sale with proceedings going back to artist base on the continent. The project aims at redressing colonial narratives by challenging the institution of the museum and focusing on how digital mediums can be use in the continuity of culture.
